Adam Peaty Claims British 100m Title with Sights Set on Los Angeles 2028

Triple Olympic gold medalist Adam Peaty secured the 100 meters breaststroke title at the British Aquatic Championships on Tuesday, setting his focus on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. With a time of 58.97 seconds, Peaty achieved the second-fastest time globally this season, indicating his potential to medal again in two years. He outperformed world junior champion Filip Nowacki, who finished second in 59.39 seconds, and Max Morgan, who finished in 59.56 seconds. However, Peaty believes there is room for improvement. 'I didn't expect to achieve that result, so it's now my baseline,' said Peaty, a six-time Olympic medalist, in a statement to reporters. 'My goal is to push that time below 57 seconds again. As a competitor, I strive to bring out the best in myself.' Peaty also expressed his unwavering dedication to the sport, stating, 'I train almost every day and enjoy swimming, so I want to spend as much time in the water as possible.' It's been nearly a year since Peaty confirmed his plans to continue competing after a brief hiatus from swimming. Peaty previously won the Olympic 100m breaststroke title at the 2016 Rio Olympics and successfully defended it at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where he also won gold in the 4x100m mixed medley relay. Following a break from swimming in 2023 due to mental health concerns, Peaty returned to competition and claimed silver in the 100m breaststroke at the 2024 Paris Games, despite facing physical challenges, including a positive COVID-19 test. If Peaty wins gold at the 2028 Olympics, he will become the oldest British swimmer to do so, at the age of 33.
