World Snooker Championship Schedule: O'Sullivan Eyes Record Eighth Title

The World Snooker Championship is set to begin, with defending champion Zhao Xintong and Ronnie O'Sullivan, who is seeking a record eighth title, headlining the event. They will face stiff competition from Judd Trump, four-time champion Mark Selby, Kyren Wilson, Neil Robertson, and Shaun Murphy, starting from April 18. The tournament, which has a rich history dating back to 1927, has seen legendary players like Joe Davis, Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry, and O'Sullivan dominate the sport. This year, 32 players will compete in the first round, with the top 16 seeds drawn at random against the 16 players who advance from the qualifying rounds. The first-round matches will be best of 19 frames, and the tournament will feature notable matchups, including Zhao Xintong vs Liam Highfield and Judd Trump vs Gary Wilson. O'Sullivan will begin his campaign on April 21, and if he and John Higgins advance, they will face each other in the last 16. The winner of the tournament will be crowned on May 6, with a total prize fund of £2,563,000. Additionally, bonuses of £40,000 and £10,000 will be awarded for maximum breaks made at the main stage and in the qualifying rounds, respectively. A bonus of £147,000 is also on offer for any player who makes two maximums across the Triple Crown events and the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters.
