Glasgow's Champions Cup Hopes Dashed by Toulon in Quarter-Final

Glasgow Warriors' bid to reach their first Investec Champions Cup semi-final ended in defeat as they fell 22-19 to RC Toulon at Scotstoun. Despite being favourites due to their strong home form and Toulon's domestic struggles, Franco Smith's side was edged out in a tumultuous match that saw the three-time European champions score four tries to Glasgow's three. The loss sets up a semi-final clash between Toulon and either Leinster or Sale. Glasgow was forced to make a late change before kickoff, with Macenzzie Duncan replacing the injured Max Williamson on the bench. The home side took the lead after a cautious start, with Toulon racking up penalties in their own 22, and eventually, Alex Samuel found Ben Afshar, who sent Stafford McDowall over for the first try. However, Toulon quickly responded, with Jeremy Sinzelle moving the ball to Gael Drean to score. A trademark run by Kyle Steyn carried Glasgow back into Toulon territory, but after several pick-and-go efforts, Sione Tuipulotu was held up just short of the line. Meanwhile, Leinster Rugby secured their place in the semi-finals with a 43-13 win over Sale Sharks, scoring six tries to set up a clash against Toulon. Leinster got off to a perfect start, with Dan Sheehan crashing over to score a 10th-minute try, and Harry Byrne adding the conversion. Sale reduced the deficit with a penalty from George Ford but was down to 14 men when Dan du Preez was shown a yellow card for a deliberate knock-on. Full-back Hugo Keenan stretched Leinster's lead with a second try, and despite a second Ford penalty, Leinster scored further tries through Ryan Baird, Rieko Ioane, and Tommy O'Brien, with Byrne adding the conversions. Sale replacement Alex Willis touched down in the corner, but a Byrne penalty and a converted Jamie Osborne try sealed a convincing win for Leinster.
