Prograis Predicts Benn's Risky Strategy Will Ultimately Backfire
Regis Prograis believes Conor Benn is taking a significant risk by facing him, and this gamble will ultimately prove costly. Benn is set to return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the site of his previous middleweight victories, including those over Chris Eubank Jr, for his third consecutive fight at the football ground. Prograis, a former super-lightweight world champion, is moving up to 150lbs to face Benn at a catchweight with no rehydration limit. "Although they've set the terms in his favor, I'm confident I can win," Prograis stated in an interview with Sky Sports. "I've spent my entire career fighting at 140lbs, so this is a substantial jump for me. I proposed a weight stipulation for the day after the fight, but they declined. I'm not concerned about the weight; I just want to make this fight happen." Prograis remains optimistic about his chances and has revealed that there is no rematch clause in place following his fight with Benn. "We didn't include a rematch clause in our agreement," the American boxer explained. "However, if the fans want to see a rematch, I'm open to it. My initial plan was to move up to 147lbs, but I received a call to fight at six weeks' notice. Fortunately, I was already training, so it worked out." Prograis is confident that his time in the gym will give him an edge over Benn. "I don't consider Benn to be in my league," Prograis said. "I think he's an average fighter, neither exceptionally good nor bad. When you look at our accomplishments, mine far surpass his. I've been ranked No. 1 in the world twice and have held the championship title twice; he has not achieved that level of success." Prograis is eager to use a victory over Benn as a stepping stone to another world title opportunity. "A win will open up numerous opportunities for me," he said. "I know that after this fight, something significant will happen. My goal is to become a three-time champion."
