England Lock Joe Launchbury Announces Retirement Plans

Joe Launchbury, the former England lock, has confirmed his decision to retire from professional rugby at the end of the current season. With 70 England caps to his name between 2012 and 2022, Launchbury has enjoyed a storied career, claiming three Six Nations titles and participating in the 2015 and 2019 Rugby World Cups. Following his move from Wasps to Quins in 2023, after a stint with Toyota Verblitz in Japan, Launchbury has made 50 appearances for Quins, albeit featuring in just six games this term. In a statement on the Harlequins' website, Launchbury expressed his gratitude for the opportunities he has had, saying, "The time feels right to step away from rugby at the end of this season." He reflected on his fortunate career, which has included representing England 70 times, as well as his time at Wasps and Harlequins, and a season in Japan. Launchbury thanked his teammates, past and present, for the friendships they have built, which he believes extend far beyond his rugby career.
