Joel Tomkins Leaves Catalans Dragons Due to Personal Circumstances

Joel Tomkins has announced his departure as head coach of Catalans Dragons, citing 'personal reasons' for his decision. Having held the position for nearly a year, Tomkins found the distance from his family to be a significant challenge. Following a brief period back home, he made the decision to step down from his role after just seven games into the Super League season, with the team currently ranked sixth. Initially appointed as interim coach after Steve McNamara's departure, Tomkins was later given the permanent position at the club where he spent the final years of his playing career. In a statement, Tomkins expressed his gratitude for the experiences and friendships formed during his tenure, acknowledging that he has grown both personally and professionally. However, the strain of being away from his family for an extended period ultimately led to his decision to leave the club. Tomkins will be replaced by Ryan Sheridan, who will take on the role of interim head coach alongside assistant coaches Micky McIlorum and Mitchell Pearce, starting with their next game against Warrington Wolves on April 18.
