Seventeen-year-old Mika Stojsavljevic, ranked 275th in the world, pulled off a stunning upset against Australia's Talia Gibson, ranked 65th, with a 7-6 (7-4) 7-5 victory in her Billie Jean King Cup debut in Melbourne. This remarkable win, which overcame a 219-place difference in the WTA rankings, gave Great Britain a strong start in the qualifiers. Stojsavljevic's victory was followed by Harriet Dart's comeback win against Kiimberly Birrell, 4-6 6-3 6-3, leaving Britain just one win away from qualifying for the finals in Shenzhen, China. Dart will team up with Jodie Burrage in the doubles rubber to try and complete the tie for Britain.
