Manchester United Nears New Deal with Kobbie Mainoo

Manchester United's manager, Michael Carrick, has stated that the club is nearing a new contract agreement with midfielder Kobbie Mainoo. This development comes after Sky Sports News reported in March that both Mainoo and Harry Maguire were close to signing new terms, with Maguire's contract being announced recently. The proposed deal for Mainoo, which is expected to include a significant pay rise, reflects his growth and current status within the team. Mainoo's current contract, signed in 2023, runs until the summer of 2027. The new proposal is for a five-year deal that would run until 2031. Carrick expressed positivity about the negotiations, stating that the situation is 'getting closer' and that the club is 'calm' and 'positive' about the outcome. The signing of a new deal would mark a significant turnaround for Mainoo, who was not part of previous head coach Ruben Amorim's plans. Since Carrick took over, Mainoo has featured in every Premier League match and has become a key player. He was also included in Thomas Tuchel's latest England squad, featuring in games against Uruguay and Japan. With Carrick's own future at the club still uncertain, he has made a strong case for becoming the permanent manager, having won seven of his 10 games since January and lifting United to third in the Premier League.
