Rangers Stun Falkirk with Nine-Goal Thriller to Keep Pressure on Hearts

In a remarkable turnaround, Rangers recovered from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Falkirk 6-3, maintaining their pursuit of the Scottish Premiership title with five matches remaining. Following wins by Hearts and Celtic on Saturday, Rangers began the day in third place, and their situation appeared bleak when Ben Broggio and Finn Yeats gave the Bairns a 2-0 lead. However, Tochi Chukwanui's goal before halftime sparked a comeback, and a strong start to the second half saw Rangers take a 3-2 lead thanks to goals from Youssef Chermiti and Nico Raskin. Rangers intensified their attack, with Bojan Miovski adding a fourth goal before Falkirk's Calvin Miller scored from the penalty spot after James Tavernier fouled Filip Lissah. Danny Röhl's team demonstrated their title credentials as Miovski and Chermiti each scored again, putting the game out of reach. Rangers have reclaimed second place, trailing leaders Hearts by one point, with Celtic two points further back. Previously this season, the top three teams in the Premiership had all won on the same weekend only once, a record Rangers were eager to maintain. Chukwuani's contentious goal just before halftime ignited an incredible comeback. The home team seemed to pause in anticipation of a goal kick after Raskin's cross curled over the goalmouth, but the ball landed on Djeidi Gassama's head, whose header hit the post before Chukwuani converted the rebound. Röhl's substitution of Bojan Miovski for Mikey Moore at halftime proved crucial. Gassama was moved to the left and won the ball on the edge of the Falkirk box, with his low cross flicked home by Chermiti, who soon missed a chance to put his team ahead. Rangers posed a greater threat and took the lead in the 52nd minute when Raskin ran around the outside of Aasgaard and hit the Norwegian's pass first time into the far corner. Chermiti missed another chance before Raskin set up Miovski to bundle home with a cross from the left. Falkirk were given a lifeline in the 70th minute when Miller scored from the spot after Tavernier brought down Filip Lissah. However, Raskin was involved again as Rangers restored their two-goal cushion, bursting forward before Chermiti scored after Gassama's shot was blocked. The Belgian midfielder was eventually booked for a clash with Dylan Tait after earlier escaping yellow cards for a clear pull and embracing Rangers fans after his goal. Miovski sealed the victory two minutes from time when he converted Oliver Antman's low cross from close range. Rangers head coach Danny Röhl spoke to Sky Sports: "Our start was not ideal. It was what we expected, and we struggled in the first 10-15 minutes with the pitch. "But the reaction was outstanding. We focused on our job and did it. "It's much easier to go into this short break with a win, of course, but the spirit is great, and after the game, you see the relationship, the connection between our supporters and the team. "We are one team now, and this is great. "Looking back, four or five months ago, I was in this situation here in Falkirk, and today, after the game, it shows a lot about our direction from the club and keeping going, keeping believing what the supporters told us, and that's what we have to do."
