I Am Maximus Regains Grand National Title

I Am Maximus made history by becoming the first horse to reclaim the Grand National title since Red Rum. The 2026 Randox Grand National saw I Am Maximus, ridden by Paul Townend, track the inside path and eventually storm home to win the race for a second time. This victory marked a record fourth win in the race for owner JP McManus, with his other horse Iroko finishing second. Trainer Willie Mullins expressed his delight, stating that I Am Maximus is a superb horse who got a fantastic ride. Mullins also noted that the modern-day National is changing and they're looking at it a bit differently. I Am Maximus's win was a testament to his endurance and skill, with jockey Paul Townend praising the horse's toughness and ability to gallop to the end. The Grand National also saw other notable performances, including Home By The Lee's dominant display in the Jet2 Liverpool Hurdle, where the 11-year-old veteran galloped to a seven-length success.
