Mercedes Working to Improve Race Starts Ahead of Miami Grand Prix

George Russell has revealed that the Mercedes team is putting in significant effort to enhance their race starts, a key area of improvement for the team. Despite achieving four front row lockouts in the first three Grands Prix and Sprint, neither Russell nor his teammate has managed to take the lead after the opening lap. The team's weakness in starts has been offset by their pace, allowing them to fight back and win the initial three races. Ferrari, meanwhile, has excelled in starts this season, thanks to their smaller turbo, which enables quicker spin-up times and makes it easier to find the optimal launch window. Russell emphasized that while opportunities to practice starts are limited, the team is focusing on analyzing data to address their flaw. Speaking during Pirelli tire testing in Germany, Russell stated that a lot is being done behind the scenes, including simulator analysis and data examination, to improve their starts. The team is looking to build on their understanding of why they have been struggling with race starts and hopes to make progress in the upcoming Miami and Montreal Sprint races.
