Alcaraz Pulls Out of Barcelona Open Due to Wrist Injury

World tennis star Carlos Alcaraz has been forced to withdraw from the Barcelona Open due to a right wrist injury. The Spaniard, a two-time champion in Barcelona, had been aiming to win the tournament to reclaim the world No 1 ranking but suffered a setback during his opening match against Otto Virtanen. Despite winning 6-4 6-2, Alcaraz required medical treatment for wrist pain and was scheduled to face Tomas Machac in the second round. However, after undergoing further tests, he decided to pull out of the competition. Alcaraz had only recently returned to action after losing the Monte-Carlo Masters final to Jannik Sinner. In a press conference, Alcaraz expressed his disappointment, stating that he had to prioritize his health and listen to his body to avoid further injury. The Spaniard will now focus on recovering in time for upcoming tournaments, including the defence of his French Open title, which begins on May 24. Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic has announced his return to action at the Mutua Madrid Open, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Tennis from April 21 to May 3.
