Milan's San Siro Stadium May Host a New Grass-Court Tennis Event Starting 2028

A new ATP 250 grass-court tournament is set to take place in Milan, Italy, starting from 2028, with the iconic San Siro stadium being considered as a potential venue. The Italian Tennis and Padel Federation has acquired the rights to the tournament, previously held in Brussels, and plans to host it annually in June. While the exact location is yet to be confirmed, the federation's president, Angelo Binaghi, hinted that the San Siro, with its massive capacity of over 75,000, could be an ideal choice due to its location in northern Italy. Binaghi drew inspiration from the Madrid Open, which is introducing practice courts within Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu. Italy has previously hosted a WTA grass-court tournament in Gaiba from 2022 to 2024. The federation is also hosting other prominent tennis events, including the ATP Finals in Turin and the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna. Additionally, plans are underway to install a retractable roof at the Foro Italico's Campo Centrale, with the goal of elevating the Rome Masters to a Grand Slam level, rivaling the likes of Indian Wells. Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner is also aiming to make history by becoming the first Italian man to win the singles title at the Foro Italico in 50 years.
