Gary Player Offers Support to Tiger Woods but Urges Caution

Golf legends Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus have expressed their support for Tiger Woods, who is currently absent from the Masters due to health issues. Woods, a 15-time major champion, has been dealing with the aftermath of a recent car accident and is seeking treatment. Player, who has been following Woods' journey, sympathized with the golfer's chronic pain but emphasized the importance of prioritizing his safety, particularly when it comes to driving. 'If I or anyone in this room had to endure the kind of pain Tiger has been experiencing, we would understand his need for medication,' Player stated. 'However, I strongly advise against driving while taking such medication, as it can be extremely hazardous.' Player suggested that Woods consider hiring a chauffeur to minimize risks. Nicklaus also offered words of encouragement, expressing his desire to see Woods return to the sport. 'Golf needs him, and we'd love to have him back,' Nicklaus said. Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley reiterated the organization's support for Woods' decision to focus on his health and well-being. Woods has been struggling with his health and has only participated in 11 official tournaments since November 2020. His last competitive appearance was at The Open in July 2024.
