Hull FC Head Coach John Cartwright to Depart at Season's End

John Cartwright, the head coach of Hull FC, will be leaving the club at the end of the 2026 Super League season. Cartwright took the reins ahead of the 2025 campaign, during which the team finished seventh. Currently, they are ninth in the 2026 standings with three wins and four losses after seven rounds. Having overseen 39 games and secured 19 victories, Cartwright was initially contracted until the end of the 2027 season, but the club has decided to release him a year early. According to Hull's CEO, Richie Myler, Cartwright has been instrumental in stabilizing the team and restoring competitiveness. Despite his departure, Cartwright will continue to lead the squad for the remainder of the season, with the club's full support. Following the announcement, players reportedly skipped a training session, seeking clarification from club officials. The club is currently in the process of securing a new head coach for the 2027 season and will provide updates soon. Rumors suggest that former Catalans Dragons head coach Steve McNamara, who played for Hull FC from 1989 to 1996, has been approached for the position.
