Rachael Blackmore to Receive Grand National Legend Honor

Rachael Blackmore, the trailblazing jockey who etched her name in history by becoming the first woman to win the Randox Grand National, is set to be inducted as a Grand National Legend in 2026. This prestigious recognition comes after her remarkable achievement of steering Minella Times to victory at Aintree in 2021. The now-retired 36-year-old rider will be formally honored at a ceremony marking the opening day of the Grand National Festival this Thursday. Blackmore will join an esteemed group of racing luminaries, including Ginger McCain, Jenny Pitman, and JP McManus, as well as legendary horses such as Red Rum, Tiger Roll, and Aldaniti, in being named a Grand National Legend. The induction ceremony will be held near the newly renamed Blackmore's Bar, which Rachael will officially open on the same day. Reflecting on her achievement, Blackmore expressed her gratitude, stating that winning the Grand National is an unforgettable moment in her life and that being included among the Grand National Legends is a significant honor. She also looks forward to opening Blackmore's Bar, an innovative addition to the racecourse. Following her retirement from racing in May 2025, with an impressive 575 career wins under her belt, including 18 victories at the Cheltenham Festival, this recognition further cements her legacy in the world of horse racing.
