Alcaraz Faces Pressure from Sinner in Bid to Retain World No 1 Spot at Monte-Carlo Masters

Carlos Alcaraz has admitted that his position as world number one is under threat, as Jannik Sinner continues to close the gap. Sinner, who recently won the 'Sunshine Double' without dropping a set, made a strong start to the Monte-Carlo Masters with a 6-3 6-0 victory over Ugo Humbert. Alcaraz, meanwhile, secured a 6-1 6-3 win against Sebastian Baez, but acknowledged that Sinner's impressive form could see him overtaken in the rankings. The Italian's victory was his 18th consecutive match win and 36th successive set at Masters 1000 level, and he will be looking to carry this momentum forward as he pursues his first Masters 1000 crown on clay. The current world rankings are: 1. Carlos Alcaraz - 2950, 2. Jannik Sinner - 2900, and 3. Daniil Medvedev - 1700. Elsewhere in the tournament, British No 1 Cameron Norrie was knocked out in the second round, losing 7-6 (7-5) 2-6 6-2 to Alex De Minaur.
