Southampton delivered a dazzling display to thrash Wrexham 5-1, catapulting themselves into sixth place in the Championship standings. The Saints quickly dispelled any concerns of a letdown following their FA Cup win over Arsenal, as they sprinted to an early two-goal advantage courtesy of Kuryu Matzuki and Flynn Downes. Josh Windass narrowed the deficit for Wrexham before halftime, but Southampton's Cyle Larin and Ross Stewart subsequently added to the tally, with Finn Azaz capping off the victory with a late strike. This triumph propels Southampton into the play-off positions, two points ahead of Wrexham, with a game in hand, and leaves them just six points shy of Ipswich in second place. The win extends Southampton's unbeaten league run to 13 games, with 10 victories, as they expertly time their push for the top. The Saints' intent was palpable from the outset, with Larin and Azaz both hitting the crossbar within the first eight minutes. Azaz atoned for his miss by setting up the opener, threading a precise pass to Matsuki, who slotted past a wrong-footed Arthur Okonkwo. The Saints continued to dictate the pace, doubling their lead as Downes capitalized on Wrexham's failure to clear a free-kick. Wrexham briefly regained momentum as Windass showcased his skill, controlling and flicking past Jack Stephens to find the bottom corner.
