Hull FC Announces John Cartwright's Departure at Season's End

John Cartwright, the head coach of Hull FC, will be leaving the club after the conclusion of the 2026 Super League season. Cartwright was appointed prior to the 2025 campaign and has led the team to a seventh-place finish in his first year. Currently, the team is ninth in the 2026 standings with three wins and four losses after seven rounds. During his tenure, Cartwright has been in charge of 39 games, securing 19 wins. Initially contracted until the end of the 2027 season, the club has decided to release him from his contract a year early. According to Hull's CEO, Richie Myler, Cartwright played a crucial role in restoring stability and competitiveness to the team. Myler expressed the board's gratitude for Cartwright's contributions and stated that he will continue to lead the squad for the remainder of the season. However, it has been reported that the players chose not to participate in a scheduled training session after being informed of Cartwright's departure. The club is currently in the process of securing a new head coach for the 2027 season and will provide an update soon. There are rumors that former Catalans Dragons head coach Steve McNamara, who previously played for Hull FC, has been approached for the position.
