Dan Skelton Celebrates Historic Trainers' Championship Title

Dan Skelton has expressed his elation at finally claiming the trainers' championship title, after it became impossible for him to be overtaken in the standings. The Alcester-based trainer had previously seen the title slip through his fingers on the final day of the previous two seasons, with Willie Mullins emerging victorious. However, Skelton has made amends this season, enjoying a remarkable campaign that has seen him become the first trainer to surpass £4 million in prize money. "It's truly amazing, we've worked tirelessly over the last few years to get close, but Willie has narrowly beaten us on the final day. It's fantastic to have finally achieved it," Skelton said, whose current season total stands at £4,762,920 following a spectacular Grand National Festival. Skelton praised his team, saying, "It's a testament to the entire team's efforts this year. We're thrilled with everyone's performance. The horses have been outstanding and consistent, and I must thank the staff, but most of all, the owners who have supported me and helped us reach this position." Skelton has previously faced intense competition from Mullins in the final weeks of the season, but with Mullins' representation set to be limited in the final two weekends, the pathway is clear for Skelton to savor his victory. Mullins, who trails Skelton by £2,094,034 in the standings, congratulated Skelton on his achievement following his Grand National win with I Am Maximus. Skelton will receive the trophy for the first time at Sandown Park on April 25.
