Brundle: Russell Must View Antonelli as a Formidable Title Rival

According to Martin Brundle, George Russell should regard his Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli as a significant threat, akin to Lewis Hamilton at the height of his career, as the two drivers engage in an emerging title battle. Mercedes has dominated the start of the season, winning the first three races, but Antonelli surprisingly holds a nine-point lead over Russell. The 19-year-old Italian has been fortunate, with a timely safety car at the Japanese Grand Prix enabling him to overtake Russell and secure his second consecutive victory. Russell, who was installed as the clear title favourite before the season began, must now reassess his approach given the competitive nature of the battle between the two Mercedes drivers. Brundle stated, 'If I was George, I'd be more concerned after three races than I was at the beginning of the season.' He emphasized that Russell needs to treat Antonelli with the same level of respect and competitiveness as he would Lewis Hamilton in his prime, acknowledging the threat Antonelli poses to his title aspirations.
