Great Britain Shocks Australia, Advances to Billie Jean King Cup Finals

Jodie Burrage and Harriet Dart led Great Britain to a decisive 3-0 victory over Australia in their Billie Jean King Cup qualifier, winning their doubles match in straight sets. The British duo defeated Storm Hunter and Ellen Perez 6-3, 6-4, completing the victory in Melbourne. After initially trailing 3-1 in the first set, Burrage and Dart rallied to win five consecutive games following the closure of the roof on John Cain Arena. The pair then served out the match in their first attempt, securing the win for Anne Keothavong's team. Burrage expressed her emotions, saying, 'That feels amazing. I'm proud of how we played and managed to close out the match.' Dart added, 'It's surreal to have made the finals, especially considering how well we played.' With several key players absent, including Emma Raducanu and Katie Boulter, Dart and debutant Mika Stojsavljevic had put Great Britain in charge with singles victories over higher-ranked opponents on Friday. Britain has now won their last four qualifier rubbers in the Billie Jean King Cup, with victories over France, Germany, Netherlands, and Australia. They will compete in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Shenzhen in September, alongside the other six tie winners from the qualifiers and host nation China. Captain Keothavong said, 'We're overjoyed. The tennis played yesterday and today was fantastic. I couldn't ask for more from my team. I'm so proud of them.' Keothavong believes Great Britain are 'due something special' after reaching the semi-finals last year and is confident that they can win the Billie Jean King Cup. 'That's always the ultimate goal,' she said. 'We've got players and a strength in depth in the UK to do something special in this competition.'
