Chelsea to Face Manchester City in FA Cup Semi-Finals After Edging Tottenham
Defending Women's FA Cup champions Chelsea have secured a semi-final spot against Women's Super League leaders Manchester City. The Blues booked their place in the last four by defeating Tottenham 2-1 at Kingsmeadow. Manchester City then joined them in the semi-finals, earning a hard-fought 1-0 win against Birmingham City in the Championship, courtesy of Khadija Shaw's goal. Liverpool will host Brighton in the other semi-final, with both teams having won their quarter-final matches on Sunday. The semi-final ties are scheduled to take place on the weekend of May 9/10, preceding the final on May 31. Chelsea's victory over Tottenham was sealed by Veerle Buurman's impressive late goal, which came in the 86th minute. The 19-year-old's powerful strike beat Tottenham's goalkeeper, Lize Kop, and ensured Chelsea remain in contention to rescue a disappointing season. Earlier, Eveliina Summanen's cross had leveled the score for the visitors in the second half, canceling out Sam Kerr's first-half header. Manchester City's win against Birmingham was facilitated by Shaw's early goal, assisted by Iman Beney's well-played ball. Despite Birmingham's valiant efforts to stay in the game, Manchester City came closest to scoring a second goal, with Yui Hasegawa's shot being brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Lucy Thomas.
