Celtic secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over St Mirren, keeping the pressure on Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts. Martin O'Neill's side moved into second place, three points behind Hearts, courtesy of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's first-half goal.
Despite a strong start, Celtic struggled to impose themselves, with Oxlade-Chamberlain's 15th-minute strike proving the difference. The hosts had an early goal ruled out for offside, while St Mirren's best chance fell to Jonah Ayunga, who fired wide after a mazy run. Celtic's Benjamin Nygren and Kieran Tierney combined to set up Oxlade-Chamberlain's winner, which proved enough to earn a narrow win. The second half was a closely contested affair, with substitute Kelechi Iheanacho missing a gilt-edged chance to seal the victory.
Celtic manager Martin O'Neill admitted his side lacked energy, while St Mirren boss Craig McLeish was left to rue his team's inability to create clear-cut chances.
