Brundle: Russell Must View Antonelli as a Formidable Title Rival

According to Sky Sports F1's Martin Brundle, George Russell should consider his Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli a significant threat, akin to Lewis Hamilton at the height of his career, as the two engage in an emerging title battle. Mercedes has dominated the start of the season, winning the first three races, but it is Antonelli who surprisingly holds a nine-point lead over Russell. The 19-year-old Italian has benefited from fortunate circumstances, such as the timing of a safety car at the Japanese Grand Prix, which helped him leapfrog Russell en route to his second consecutive victory. Russell, who was installed as a clear title favorite before the season began, must now reassess his approach given Antonelli's impressive performance in the early stages of his second F1 campaign. Brundle noted that Russell should be more concerned after three races than he was at the beginning of the season, emphasizing the need for Russell to treat Antonelli as a serious championship contender, much like he would have treated Hamilton in his prime.
