As a result, McIlroy is now the strong favourite to join an elite group of back-to-back Masters winners, including Jack Nicklaus, Sir Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods. McIlroy's impressive birdie streak, with six birdies in his last seven holes, has put him firmly in the lead, ahead of Sam Burns and former Masters winner Patrick Reed. The defending champion's success can be attributed to his ability to maintain momentum and feed off the energy of the crowd, as he explained: 'This course allows you to get on a roll, and when you're feeling it, you can keep the momentum going, and the crowd gets behind you.' McIlroy held a share of the overnight lead after equalling the second-lowest round by a defending champion at The Masters.
