Sinner and Alcaraz Advance to Quarterfinals at Monte-Carlo Masters

Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner bounced back from a setback to defeat Tomas Machac 6-1 6-7 (3-7) 6-3, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Monte-Carlo Masters. Sinner's winning streak of 37 consecutive sets at Masters 1000 level was ended by Machac, but he recovered to seal the victory. Sinner will face Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarterfinals after Auger-Aliassime's opponent, Casper Ruud, was forced to retire due to injury. Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz dropped a set before defeating Argentina's Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-1 4-6 6-3 to continue his title defense. Alcaraz will play Alexander Bublik in the quarterfinals, while Sinner's potential title run could mean he regains the world No.1 spot. Elsewhere, 19-year-old Joao Fonseca reached the quarterfinals of a Masters 1000 event for the first time with a 6-3 6-2 win over Matteo Berrettini. Alexander Zverev also advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-2 7-5 win over Zizou Bergs.
