Injury Forces Draper's Early Exit at Barcelona Open

Jack Draper's return to the clay courts was cut short as he was forced to retire from his first-round match against Tomas Martin Etcheverry at the Barcelona Open due to an injury. Despite a strong start, winning the first set 6-3, Draper's movement was hindered by a knee issue, which worsened as the match progressed. After losing the second set 6-3, Draper trailed 4-1 in the third set before deciding to withdraw. The injury setback came as a disappointment, given Draper's promising start to the match. His opponent, Etcheverry, praised Draper's competitive spirit, expressing hope for his speedy recovery. This was only Draper's fourth tournament since recovering from a left-arm injury that had kept him out of action since last August's US Open. Draper is scheduled to play next at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Madrid, where he was a finalist last year. Etcheverry will proceed to the second round, facing either Nuno Borges or Adrian Mannarino.
