I Am Maximus Regains Grand National Title

I Am Maximus has made history by becoming the first horse to reclaim the Grand National title since the renowned Red Rum. In a dramatic 2026 Randox Grand National, I Am Maximus, ridden by Paul Townend, tracked the inner path he knows so well. The race saw early drama with Grangeclare West and Panic Attack falling, but I Am Maximus stormed home to win for the second time. This victory marks a record fourth win in the race for owner JP McManus, who also had Iroko finish second, a first for one owner to have the first two places. Trainer Willie Mullins joins an elite group of four-time National-winning handlers and praised I Am Maximus as a superb horse who got a fantastic ride. Mullins noted that maybe the modern-day National is changing, and they're looking at it differently. I Am Maximus's win was a testament to his strength and endurance, with jockey Paul Townend saying, 'He's tough, isn't he? He'll gallop to the end of the world for you.' The victory has sparked hopes that I Am Maximus could further emulate Red Rum with a historic third success next year.
