Sinner and Alcaraz Advance to Quarter-Finals at Monte-Carlo Masters

Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner ended his 37-set winning streak at Masters 1000 level, but still managed to secure a spot in the quarter-finals of the Monte-Carlo Masters. Sinner overcame Tomas Machac with a 6-1 6-7 (3-7) 6-3 win, despite struggling with his energy levels during the match. Sinner had previously achieved the Sunshine Double without dropping a set, winning titles at Indian Wells and the Miami Open, and also claimed the Paris Masters title last year. He is now set to face Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarter-finals, after the sixth seed progressed when Casper Ruud was forced to retire due to injury. Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz also dropped a set before securing a 6-1 4-6 6-3 win over Tomas Martin Etcheverry to continue his title defence. Alcaraz, who made 23 unforced errors in the second set, eventually bounced back to win the match and will now face Alexander Bublik in the quarter-finals. Other quarter-final matches include Joao Fonseca taking on Alexander Zverev, and Valentin Vacherot facing Jannik Sinner. Vacherot made history as the first Monegasque in the Open Era to reach the top eight in Monaco, following his 6-7(4) 6-3 6-4 win over Hubert Hurkacz. In other news, Holger Rune will return to action at next month's Hamburg Open after undergoing Achilles surgery in October. The three-time Grand Slam quarter-finalist expressed his excitement to be back on clay and experience the atmosphere at the Bitpanda Hamburg Open.
