Hull FC Announces Cartwright's Departure at Season's End

John Cartwright, the head coach of Hull FC, will be departing the club at the conclusion of the current Super League season. Cartwright took the reins ahead of the 2025 campaign and has led the team to a seventh-place finish in his inaugural year. Currently, the team is ranked ninth in the 2026 standings with three wins and four losses after seven rounds. During his tenure, Cartwright has overseen 39 games, securing 19 victories. Initially contracted until the end of the 2027 season, the club has chosen to release him from his contract a year early. According to Hull's CEO, Richie Myler, Cartwright played a crucial role in restoring stability and competitiveness to the team. Myler expressed the board's gratitude for Cartwright's contributions and confirmed that he will continue to lead the squad for the remainder of the season. Following the announcement of Cartwright's departure, the players reportedly opted not to participate in a scheduled training session, seeking communication from club officials regarding the decision. The club is currently in the process of securing a new head coach for the 2027 season and will provide updates in due course. It is rumored that Hull FC has approached former Catalans Dragons head coach Steve McNamara, who previously played for the Black and Whites from 1989 to 1996.
