Hull FC Announces Cartwright's Departure at Season's End

John Cartwright, the head coach of Hull FC, is set to leave the club at the conclusion of the 2026 Super League season. Cartwright took the reins ahead of the 2025 campaign, during which the team finished seventh, and currently sits ninth in the 2026 table with three wins and four losses after seven rounds. With 39 games under his belt, he has secured 19 wins. Initially contracted until the end of the 2027 season, the club has opted to release him from his contract a year early. Richie Myler, Hull's CEO, expressed gratitude for Cartwright's role in restoring stability and competitiveness. Cartwright will continue to lead the squad for the remainder of the season, with the club's full support. Following the announcement, the players reportedly chose not to participate in a scheduled training session, seeking communication from club officials regarding the decision. The club is currently in the process of securing a head coach for the 2027 season and will provide an update soon. Former Catalans Dragons head coach Steve McNamara, who played for Hull FC from 1989 to 1996, has been formally approached by the club.
