Capsey Poised for Breakthrough Year in 2026

According to Nasser Hussain, Alice Capsey is on the verge of achieving unprecedented success in women's cricket in 2026, having come to terms with her immense talent. With 34 ODI and 45 T20I appearances for England under her belt, Capsey has established herself as a versatile player in international and franchise cricket. Hussain believes that Capsey's realization of her abilities could be the catalyst for her to reach new heights. Hussain told the Sky Sports Cricket podcast, "She's been around for a while, so it's not quite a breakout, but that's only because of how good she was when she was young. I think the penny has dropped with Capsey, and she's suddenly realizing how much of a talent she is." Meanwhile, Michael Atherton has tipped 19-year-old Davina Perrin to make a significant impact this summer. Perrin's impressive 42-ball century in The Hundred last year has left a lasting impression, and Atherton believes she is poised for a standout season with Birmingham Phoenix. With England's women facing a crucial summer, including a T20 World Cup on home soil, the pressure is on. Atherton noted, "For the hosts, it's a combination. There is an advantage in terms of knowledge of conditions, being at home, getting all the support - but with that comes added pressure." Despite England's semifinal finish in the 50-over World Cup, Hussain does not consider them firm favorites to win the T20 World Cup. He explained, "Any side apart from Australia going into any tournament over the past 10 years has never been firm favorites. I do think England are a very strong side, but their problem is they beat sides below them in the table and then get to knockout games where they seem to fluff their lines when there's a bit of jeopardy." Hussain added, "The test for Charlotte Edwards and her team is to match the likes of Australia, India, or South Africa when the standard improves. That is England's test on home soil - but they are a very talented squad of players."
