Azaz soon made amends by setting up the opener, threading a fine pass to Matsuki, who slotted the ball past Arthur Okonkwo. The Saints continued to dominate, doubling their lead as Downes thumped home after Wrexham failed to clear a free-kick. Wrexham briefly reduced the deficit through Windass's classy finish, but Larin eventually got the goal he deserved, calmly lifting the ball over Okonkwo. As the game drew to a close, Stewart headed in from a Welington free-kick, and Azaz sealed the victory with a late strike. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson reflected on the defeat, stating, 'We have to use this as a lesson... We knew the importance of this game, and it hurts that we haven't put in a competitive performance.'
