Maria Jose Marin Secures Historic Victory at Augusta National Women's Amateur
Colombia's Maria Jose Marin dominated the Augusta National Women's Amateur, setting a new tournament scoring record with a 14-under 202 total. The 19-year-old's impressive victory was sealed with a four-under 68 in the final round, capitalizing on leader Asterisk Talley's collapse on the back nine. Marin, a junior at the University of Arkansas, becomes the third NCAA champion to claim the title at the home of The Masters, following in the footsteps of Jennifer Kupcho and Rose Zhang. Her win was marked by a dramatic turn of events on the back nine, where Talley's quadruple-bogey seven on the par-three 12th handed Marin a significant advantage. Marin's triumph was celebrated by fellow golfer Maria Fassi, who finished as runner-up in the inaugural tournament and has been an inspiration to Marin. With this win, Marin earns a spot in three LPGA Tour majors this year, having also won the Women's Amateur Latin America and the NCAA championship last year.
