Swiatek Appoints Raducanu's Ex-Coach Roig Just Two Months After Their Split
Iga Swiatek, the reigning Wimbledon champion, has hired Emma Raducanu's former coach Francisco Roig, just over two months after Raducanu and Roig parted ways. Raducanu had split with Roig in late January, following her Australian Open defeat, and this marked her ninth coaching change since winning the US Open in 2021. Swiatek, who recently lost her opening match at the Miami Open, had also parted ways with her coach Wim Fissette. The world No 4 announced Roig's appointment on Instagram, expressing her excitement for the new chapter. Roig is known for his 17-year tenure as part of Rafael Nadal's coaching team. With the tennis season transitioning to clay, Swiatek's preferred surface, this change comes at a pivotal moment. Raducanu had stated that Roig initiated their split, citing differing visions for their partnership. Since then, Raducanu has been working with Mark Petchey, Andy Murray's former coach, on an ad-hoc basis and has withdrawn from the upcoming Linz Open to focus on regaining her fitness after an illness.
