Bearman Shaken but Unhurt After Frightening Crash

Oliver Bearman escaped serious harm despite a dramatic crash during the Japanese Grand Prix, where he lost control of his Haas and spun into the barrier at high speed while chasing Alpine's Franco Colapinto for 17th place. The incident occurred on lap 21 when Bearman veered off the track and onto the grass before hitting the barrier at Spoon Curve. Although he needed assistance from marshals after exiting the car, an X-ray at the track's medical center confirmed that the 20-year-old Briton did not suffer any fractures. After being cleared by the medical center, Bearman expressed relief that the situation was not worse, stating, "Everything's good... I'm absolutely fine. It was a scary moment, but everything's okay, which is the main thing." He apologized to his team for the significant damage to the car, acknowledging the substantial work required for repairs. The crash was attributed to a considerable difference in speed between Bearman's car and others due to variations in energy deployment, a consequence of the new regulations. As a result, the FIA announced plans to review the 2026 regulations in light of the incident. Bearman explained that the "massive overspeed" of 50kph was a challenge posed by the new rules, emphasizing the need for drivers to adapt to significant speed differences. The incident led to a Safety Car period, which impacted the race outcome, allowing Kimi Antonelli to claim the lead and eventual victory.
