Dalton Smith Surpasses Adam Azim, Promoter Claims
Following his impressive fifth-round knockout of Subriel Matias to capture the WBC super-lightweight title, newly-crowned champion Dalton Smith has been deemed to be on a higher level than Adam Azim by his promoter, Frank Smith. The Matchroom Boxing CEO expressed that Azim, who relinquished the European super-lightweight title in April 2024, has not achieved the same level of success as Smith. Frank Smith stated, 'It's wrong to mention Adam Azim on Dalton Smith's level.' Smith's promotional team believes that a potential fight between the two British boxers is premature and slightly disrespectful, given Smith's recent accomplishments. When asked about a potential matchup, Frank Smith said, 'Dalton Smith smashes Adam Azim to bits. No question.' The focus for Smith's team is to secure the best possible fights for their champion, with a potential unification fight against the winner of Shakur Stevenson versus Teófimo Lopez being a top priority. A summer homecoming fight for Smith at Hillsborough in Sheffield is also in the works.
