Virat Kohli has achieved a notable milestone by becoming the second-highest run-scorer across all international cricket formats, playing a pivotal role in India's four-wicket victory over New Zealand in the first ODI. His impressive 93 runs off 91 balls, marking his 77th ODI half-century, propelled him to 28,068 runs, thereby surpassing Kumar Sangakkara's tally of 28,016 and positioning him behind Sachin Tendulkar's record of 34,357. Daryl Mitchell was the top scorer for the visitors with 84 runs off 71 balls.
