Poland Claims Maiden United Cup Title After Ending Bencic's Winning Streak

Poland has secured its first-ever United Cup title, defeating Switzerland in the final. The Polish team ended Belinda Bencic's nine-match winning streak, which included victories over world No 2 Iga Swiatek and other top players. Bencic and her partner Jakub Paul were defeated by Katarzyna Kawa and Jan Zielinski in the decisive match, allowing Poland to win the title 2-1. This victory comes after Poland's losses to Germany in the 2024 final and the USA in the 2025 final. Earlier, Hubert Hurkacz levelled the final at 1-1 by beating 40-year-old Stan Wawrinka in a three-set men's battle. Bencic had previously rallied from a set down to defeat Swiatek in the women's singles, capitalizing on 36 unforced errors from the six-time Grand Slam champion. Swiatek has now lost four consecutive matches to Coco Gauff and will look to bounce back at the Australian Open. Poland's victory is a testament to the team's hard work and dedication, and they hope to inspire the next generation of tennis players.
