Manchester City Completes Signing of Antoine Semenyo

Manchester City has finalized the transfer of Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth, with the deal valued at £64m. Semenyo has agreed to a five-and-a-half-year contract with the club, bringing the total transfer expenditure for Manchester City over the last 12 months to £425.9m across 14 players. Although the announcement is expected to be made official on Friday, the agreement was reached outside of Semenyo's £65m release clause, with City paying £62.5m plus performance-related bonuses of £1.5m and a 10 percent sell-on clause. City outbid rival clubs Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Tottenham to secure the 26-year-old's services. The sale of Semenyo has earned Bournemouth a significant amount, which is higher than any offer they received during the summer. In his final game for Bournemouth, Semenyo scored a dramatic winner, securing a 3-2 victory over Tottenham before undergoing his medical examination with Manchester City. As part of the deal, Championship club Bristol City will receive 20 percent of any profit made from Semenyo's sale, having sold him to Bournemouth for around £10m in January 2023. The transfer marks a significant milestone for Bournemouth, which has earned £266.5m from player sales over the last six months, following the departures of notable players. Since the start of the 2016/17 season, Manchester City has spent a staggering £1.75bn on transfers, with £176.1m spent in January 2025 alone.
