Adrian Meronk staged a remarkable comeback on the final day at St Andrews, erasing a four‑shot deficit to edge out South African Casey Jarvis and secure the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship by two strokes. The win marked a watershed moment for the LIV Golf player, ending a 1,078‑day drought without a DP World Tour title and guaranteeing him a tour card for the upcoming season after posting a solid four‑under‑par 68 in the decisive round.
Going into the fourth day, Jarvis held a slender two‑stroke advantage after a blistering start that featured consecutive birdies on holes four and five. However, his momentum stalled as he dropped bogeys on the ninth and eleventh holes, allowing Meronk to close the gap. Meronk, who entered the final three holes with a two‑shot lead, saw his position tested when Jarvis made a bogey on the 17th, briefly narrowing the margin. The South African could not capitalize further; a missed green on the penultimate hole forced another bogey, leaving him needing an eagle on the 18th to force a playoff.
Jarvis' drive found the fringe of the green, but the required long eagle putt slipped away, sealing Meronk's triumph. "I never usually cry, but this one feels very special," Meronk admitted after the victory. "It’s been a tough year, and to win here a decade after turning professional feels like a dream come true." Jarvis finished with a 72, sharing second place with Denmark's Niklas Nørgaard. Meanwhile, world‑ranked 979 Michael Stewart enjoyed a fairy‑tale tournament, climbing to a tie for fourth alongside Tommy Fleetwood at 16‑under‑par after a strong showing on the Tartan Pro Tour the week before.
Brooks Koepka recorded his first top‑10 finish of the season on both the DP World Tour and PGA Tour, joining defending champion Robert MacIntyre at 16‑under for a tie for sixth. England's Matthew Jordan, who began the day just two shots behind Jarvis, endured a disappointing round, slipping to a tie for 11th after a three‑over 75 on the Old Course.
Open de France winner Matt Fitzpatrick also fell down the leaderboard, finishing tied for 17th with an even‑par round. Meronk's final round was a model of consistency. He opened with birdies on the first two holes, added a birdie on the fourth, and after a brief bogey on the seventh, rebounded with a birdie on the ninth. A pivotal birdie on the 12th gave him sole possession of the lead, which he extended with another birdie on the 14th.
Although he made a bogey on the 17th, he held steady enough to clinch the title. "After my drive on 18, I was quite happy with the position I was in," Meronk reflected. "Crossing the famous bridge at St Andrews is an amazing experience – you can feel the history, imagine legends like Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus walking the same path, and I asked them for good energy.
It was a great feeling, and I really enjoyed it." The victory also placed Meronk in an exclusive club: he became only the third player in tournament history to win both the individual competition and the team Pro‑Am event, the latter achieved alongside Keane frontman Tom Chaplin, who helped secure a one‑shot win for their team. Stewart expressed delight at his high finish, noting that his tied‑fourth place earned him a £168,000 cheque and a spot in next week’s Open de España in Madrid.
Despite the lucrative opportunity, Stewart, who currently sits second on the Tartan Pro Tour Order of Merit, confirmed his commitment to the Gleneagles Masters, the next Tartan event, emphasizing the importance of securing his status for the 2027 HotelPlanner Tour. "I definitely have to play the Tartan Tour next week," Stewart said.
"I don’t want to be left in limbo with nowhere to play next season after a great year. The focus has to be on the Tartan Tour right now." The DP World Tour will shift its focus to Madrid next week for the Open de España.
