Sky Sports has finalized a three-year renewal of its agreement to broadcast the US Open, guaranteeing that the tournament will continue to be shown exclusively on Sky Sports and the NOW platform across the United Kingdom and Ireland up to the close of 2030. This renewed deal, struck in partnership with the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and brokered by the USTA's media rights adviser IMG, ensures that Sky will retain sole live coverage of every facet of the three‑week event, from the men’s and women’s singles draws to doubles, mixed doubles, junior contests and wheelchair competitions. Beyond the traditional television feed, the arrangement also gives British and Irish tennis fans access to a wealth of supplementary content. Highlights, short clips and on‑demand replays will be distributed through Sky’s digital channels and social media outlets, allowing viewers to catch up on key moments at their convenience.
In recent years Sky has pushed the presentation of the tournament forward with a suite of innovative tools, such as augmented‑reality graphics that overlay statistics onto the court, sophisticated data visualisations, touch‑screen analysis boards used by pundits, and behind‑the‑scenes features that bring audiences closer to the players and the atmosphere in New York’s Flushing Meadows. The on‑air team for the coverage is anchored by presenter Gigi Salmon, who is supported by former Grand Slam champions Tim Henman and Laura Robson for expert analysis. Additional commentators and specialists are deployed at various venues throughout the season, while Jonathan Overend provides the play‑by‑play narration that guides viewers through each match. The broadcast also encourages the use of the Chrome browser to deliver a more accessible video player experience.
The extension comes on the heels of a dramatic edition of the US Open. The tournament witnessed the shocking early‑round defeat of 24‑time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic, while the men’s final produced a historic climax when American Ben Shelton edged out Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in a match that concluded at 3:33 a.m. local time.
On the women’s side, a highly anticipated showdown is set for Saturday, pitting world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka against world No. 2 Elena Rybakina for the championship. Jonathan Licht, Chief Executive Officer of Sky Sports UK & Ireland, commented: "The US Open is one of the marquee events on the global sporting calendar, showcasing the sport's biggest stars against the iconic backdrop of New York City.
We are thrilled to extend our partnership with the USTA, reinforcing our mutual dedication to innovation, elite sport presentation and delivering world‑class coverage to our audience. This renewal further solidifies Sky Sports' status as the premier home for sport across the UK and Ireland, offering fans unmatched breadth and value throughout the year." Kirsten Corio, Chief Commercial Officer of the USTA, added: "The US Open and Sky Sports have enjoyed a long‑standing, trusted partnership, and we are excited to continue this strong relationship through the new agreement.
Sky shares our vision of delivering cutting‑edge, innovative coverage to a passionate tennis audience in the UK and Ireland, and we are confident that our ongoing collaboration will accelerate the sport’s growth and deepen fans' connection to the game." Sky’s tennis portfolio extends well beyond the US Open. The broadcaster provides year‑round live tennis, covering both the ATP and WTA Tours on its main channels and via the NOW streaming service and Sky Sports app. In total, Sky Sports will air more than 4,000 matches across 80 tournaments this season, ensuring that tennis enthusiasts have constant access to top‑level competition.
The US Open extension complements an already extensive rights portfolio that Sky holds across a range of sports. The broadcaster has secured the majority of Premier League fixtures—approximately 1,500 games—along with rights to the Women’s Super League, English Football League, and Scottish Professional Football League. Sky also enjoys exclusive live coverage of every Formula 1 Grand Prix through 2034, full broadcasting rights to England’s men’s and women’s international cricket, comprehensive coverage of the golf majors, year‑round darts, premium boxing events from promoters Zuffa and MVP, and significant coverage of the NFL, Netball Super League and rugby league.
The US Open will commence live broadcasts on Sky Sports on August 30. Viewers can also stream the tournament without a contract via the NOW platform or the Sky Sports app, providing flexible access across devices. Additionally, Sky will broadcast the Laver Cup from September 25‑27 at The O2 in London, further underscoring its commitment to delivering premier tennis content to UK and Irish audiences throughout the year.
