The tournament, boasting a total prize fund of £450,000, returns to the AFAS Live arena in Amsterdam and is scheduled for September 17‑20.
Defending champion Michael van Gerwen will be looking to retain his title on home soil after defeating Littler in last year’s final to collect an £80,000 winner’s cheque. Van Gerwen has enjoyed a blistering season on the PDC circuit, capturing the Bahrain Darts Masters in January and the Nordic Darts Masters in June. He also came close to adding a third crown earlier in the year, falling 8‑5 to Littler in the inaugural Saudi Arabia Darts Masters final. Luke Littler, the World Matchplay champion, arrives as the third seed.
The 19‑year‑old prodigy shocked the circuit by beating the Dutch star in Saudi Arabia and will be looking to add another major title to his rapidly growing résumé. Gerwyn Price, who was runner‑up to Littler at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, is seeded second and will be eager to reverse that result.
Also in the 32‑player field is Luke Humphries, the fourth seed, fresh from a victory at the US Darts Masters in June. New Zealand’s Jonny Clayton, winner of the New Zealand Darts Masters, and Australian James Wade, champion of the Australian Darts Masters, occupy the sixth and seventh seeds respectively.
