Hearts' Budge and Celtic Legends Honored in New Year's List

Ann Budge has expressed her delight at being recognized in the New Year Honours list, calling it a 'lovely' conclusion to her remarkable tenure as Hearts chair. The 77-year-old businesswoman, who recently ended her 11-and-a-half-year reign, has been appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her services to sports and the community. Budge is joined by former Celtic CEO Fergus McCann, who has been awarded a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), and Lisbon Lion Jim Craig, who has also received an OBE. Budge reflected on her time at Hearts, which saw the club rise from administration in 2014 to become a dominant force in Scottish football. 'It's a wonderful recognition, and I'm thrilled,' she said. 'I never expected it, but it's a great honor.' Budge attributed her success to the collective efforts of everyone involved with Hearts, stating that the recognition should be shared among the entire team. She also expressed her gratitude to the supporters, who have been kind to her throughout her tenure. Fergus McCann, who led Celtic's takeover in 1994, has been recognized for his contributions to the club's redevelopment and modernization. Jim Craig, a member of the historic Lisbon Lions team, has been honored for his achievements in football and his dedication to the community. Craig, who won 15 major trophies with Celtic, has had a distinguished career as a player, coach, and dentist.
