Boston Common Claims First TGL Victory with McIlroy and Thorbjornsen Shining

Rory McIlroy's Boston Common Golf has finally achieved their first TGL victory, with Michael Thorbjornsen stealing the show in a thrilling 7-5 win over Los Angeles. Following a winless inaugural season, Boston Common has turned their fortunes around in the second campaign, kicking off with a successful start at SoFiCenter. Thorbjornsen, who stepped in to compete alongside McIlroy and Keegan Bradley due to the unavailability of Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama, sealed the victory with a stunning 15-foot eagle putt in his singles match against Sahith Theegala. McIlroy faced off against Ryder Cup teammate Justin Rose in singles, earning a point for Boston with a birdie at the 10th hole. The matchup brought back memories of their Masters playoff last April, which McIlroy won to complete his career Grand Slam. After the win, McIlroy expressed his relief, stating, 'It's been a long time coming for Keegan and me to get a win. There were a lot of quality shots, birdies, eagles, and Hammers thrown – it was certainly fun to play.' Thorbjornsen made history as the first TGL player to make four putts from outside 10 feet in a match, giving Boston a 6-5 lead with a 17-footer at the 12th hole. He then secured the win with a 15-footer, capping off an impressive performance. The 24-year-old had initially struggled, with his first TGL shot landing in a bunker, but he bounced back to impress throughout the match. The next TGL match will feature the 2025 champions Atlanta Drive GC taking on The Bay, live on Sky Sports Golf from 10 pm UK and Ireland time on Tuesday, January 6.
