Myles Garrett Shatters NFL Single-Season Sack Record

Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett made history by breaking the NFL's single-season sack record against the Cincinnati Bengals. The 29-year-old entered the final week of the season half a sack behind the previous record of 22.5, set by New York Giants defensive end Michael Strahan in 2001/02 and matched by TJ Watt in 2021/22. Garrett achieved the record-breaking 23rd sack with just over five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter of the Browns' 20-18 victory. He was the first overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and has recorded double-digit sacks in eight consecutive seasons, including a career-high 23 sacks this season. Garrett's record-breaking season included a five-sack performance against the New England Patriots and four sacks against the Baltimore Ravens. With a four-year $160m contract, Garrett has lifted his career sack tally to 125.5, the second-most by a player in their first nine seasons since 1982. This milestone marks the 12th time he has sacked Joe Burrow, his most-sacked quarterback. Garrett expressed his excitement, saying, 'It was everything I expected... The feeling couldn't be better.' Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski praised Garrett, stating, 'That's history. He's the sack king.' Sky Sports NFL's Phoebe Schecter noted, 'Garrett is literally making history...
