The world of sports is no stranger to remarkable comebacks, but some are more astonishing than others, particularly when they occur after a successful transition to a new career. Eve Muirhead, the gold medal-winning curling skip for Team GB at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, is one such example.

Despite being part of the curling story and success for some time, Muirhead had announced her retirement, but the driven individual has now decided to return to the sport. At just 32 years old when she retired, Muirhead had already achieved great success, including a bronze medal in 2014 and the ultimate glory of taking Olympic gold in 2022.

However, she has been appointed to lead Team GB at the Winter Youth Olympics and later as Chef de Mission of the Team for the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics, which has sparked a new 'sporting' itch within her. Muirhead intends to compete in the 2030 Winter Olympics in the French Alps to win a mixed doubles gold, which would complete her set of Olympic medals. In an interview with Sky Sports, Muirhead expressed her desire to prove that women can take a break from their sporting careers, start families, and return to elite-level competition. She cited inspiration from athletes like Serena Williams and Lindsey Vonn, who have made successful comebacks after retiring from their respective sports.

Muirhead believes that the landscape and attitudes towards women in sports have changed, and she feels that she can now make a comeback to elite-level sport after time away. With a newfound sense of determination and a more relaxed approach, Muirhead is ready to push herself to the limit and strive for gold in the 2030 Winter Olympics.
