Chelsea has confirmed the signing of Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix in a £51m deal. The 26-year-old has agreed to a six-year contract, marking a significant addition to the club's defensive lineup.
This move signifies a strategic shift in Chelsea's transfer policy under new manager Xabi Alonso, focusing on acquiring more experienced players. Lacroix expressed his enthusiasm, stating, 'I think it's the best move for me because it's the best club in the world.' He also revealed that conversations with teammates, including Malo Gusto, Trevoh Chalobah, and Benoit Badiashile, reinforced his decision. Chelsea's spending has now surpassed £250m this summer, with further transfers anticipated, including the potential departure of defenders Trevoh Chalobah, Benoit Badiashile, and Axel Disasi.
The club has already generated over £130m from player sales and compensation.
