Rangers have finalized the acquisition of center-back Olwethu Makhanya from Philadelphia Union in a deal valued at approximately £3m. The 22-year-old South Africa international has signed a four-year contract, with Rangers holding an option to extend the deal by an additional 12 months. This transfer marks the club's eighth summer signing. Makhanya expressed his excitement, stating, 'It's an immense honor and a huge blessing to join a club with such a rich history.
I've always dreamed of playing in Europe since I was a child, and now that dream has come true.' Manager Derek McInnes welcomed Makhanya, praising his attributes and confidence as a defender. With eight new players joining the team, Rangers are now focusing on adding an attacking option to enhance their creativity, with Coventry City winger Jahnoah Markelo being considered.
